PRINCIPAL
BIOGRAPHIES
LINDA
CHAPMAN-CAPRON, PRINCIPAL AND SENIOR CONSULTANT
is a skilled facilitator, consultant
and trainer specializing in team-building, leadership
and personal development, human relations and
organizational effectiveness. She joined the COAC, Inc.
in 1989 and became Majority Principal in 1991.
She has 27 years of experience in management, training,
consulting, counseling and education. Linda has worked
with a variety of populations from young children to
adults. She was named the 1999 Charlotte Woman
Business Owner of the Year and is a 2000 recipient of
The Business Journal Women in Business Achievement
Award. She was also named the 2002 SBA Women in Business
Advocate Award winner. In addition to her work at
the COAC, Inc., she has taught human relations courses
at CPCC. She currently serves as Immediate Past
President of National Association of Women Business
Owners Charlotte Chapter; she also serves as Co-Chair of
the National Business Women’s Week Planning Alliance
and has served on the boards of the Carolina Diamonds
Women’s Professional Fast Pitch Softball Team and
Uptown Optimist Club. Before joining the COAC, Inc,
Linda was the Executive Director of a Residential
Treatment Facility where she designed and directed
behavior change programs. She has dedicated her career
to helping others, including holding executive positions
in several non-profit organizations.
Linda holds an M.Ed. from Winthrop University with a
specialty in community guidance and counseling and an
undergraduate degree in Social Science from Western
Carolina University. She sees her current work as a
natural extension of her lifelong interest in helping
people and organizations maximize their potential.
BRIAN
K. CAPRON, PRINCIPAL AND SENIOR CONSULTANT
is a skilled facilitator, consultant,
and trainer with 16 years of management, training and
consulting experience. He has spent the last 23 years
facilitating group and personal growth experiences in a
variety of settings, with a wide variety of populations.
Brian has an undergraduate degree in education from UNCC
and a Masters Degree in Human Development and Learning
specializing in community counseling. Brian joined the
COAC, Inc. in early 1989.
Brian focuses on several areas. He is our lead
facilitator and program designer for our corporate
teambuilding and leadership development programs. He
heads up our design, layout, construction, and staff
training segments of our challenge course construction
operation, with over 40 courses under his belt, and
countless staff trainings. He is our lead therapeutic
program designer and facilitator. His work with
wilderness training programs and special populations
adds to his expertise in the planning and facilitation
of our wilderness adventure programs.
His earlier professional experience includes seven years
with a family crisis center and runaway shelter as a
counselor to youth and families and later as a clinical
supervisor and program director. During college and
graduate school, Brian worked with a number of
wilderness programs in the southeast. Brian sees his
work with the COAC, Inc. as a natural outgrowth of his
caring about people and love of the outdoors.

The Charlotte Outdoor Adventure Center, Inc., brings
together a highly qualified professional staff offering
years of program development, facilitation, training,
adventure education, experiential learning and ropes
course construction experience.
- A. VANN BRANCH,
has 30+ years of experience in
education and counseling. Vann’s specialties range
from providing classroom training sessions on a
variety of human and business relations topics to
crisis intervention counseling. Vann holds BS in
Education from South Carolina State and a M.Ed. from
Winthrop University specializing in Guidance and
Counseling. Vann works full-time with CPCC's Student
Life area.
- SCOTT
MITCHELL,
holds a BS degree in Parks,
Recreation, and Tourism Management from North
Carolina State University. He brings to our team
working experience with a variety of populations in
a variety of settings. He facilitates corporate and
youth teambuilding sessions, helps in the
construction of ropes courses, and works with our
Adventure Programs. Scott is also an Emergency
Medical Technician and a Rock Climber.
- JACK IGELMAN
holds a Masters Degree in
Economics from Montana State University. Jack joined
us in 1994. His business and teaching experience
helps make him an insightful member of our
facilitation team. His rock climbing experience adds
to his expertise in ropes course facilitation and
rock climbing instruction. Jack’s personal
experience with the North Carolina Outward Bound
School prepared him to be a vital member of our
team.
- JAN WOLOSON
holds a Masters Degree in counseling and works full
time as a mediator in Hendersonville, NC. Jan brings
a wealth of group and wilderness experience with her
20+ years at Outward Bound, Wilderness Southeast and
other outdoor programs. Jan joined our team in 1992.
- JIMIE L. McBEE
is a certified Human Relations
Counselor with a BS in Social Psychology. He brings
over 30 years experience in counseling youths and
adults. Jimie’s experience also includes
instructing and facilitating groups on race and
gender issues. Jimie joined the COAC in 1993.
- STEVE HALE
has
a Bachelors Degree in Recreation and Business
Administration from the University of New Hampshire.
Steve has worked in the outdoor industry for over 20
years with such organizations as Outward Bound, the
Nantahala Outdoor Center and Building Bridges, Inc.
Steve brings a wealth of facilitation and
construction experience with him to the COAC, Inc.
- KRISTEN SHERMAN
has a Bachelors degree in
Communication and brings to our team years of
experience in adventure education and teambuilding.
Prior to joining the COAC, Inc. in 1993, Kristen
spent several years with the Outward Bound School.
Kristen specializes in facilitating adult and youth
teambuilding and leadership development sessions.
Kristen is the administrator for the English as a
Second Language Program at Central Piedmont
Community College.
- JEROME SOUZA
has a degree in Art from UNCC. He brings six years
of outdoor program experience, from UNCC's Venture
program and several other organizations to our team.
Jerome has joined us as a youth and corporate
facilitator, challenge course construction crew,
Train-the Trainer and Adventure Program instructor.
While not working with us, Jerome is busy with his
oil painting and rock climbing passions
- BRIAN FOSTER
brings a wealth of technical
experience through his eight years with the Air
Force as a Para-rescue expert stationed around the
world. Brian is pursuing his degree in physical
therapy and athletic training. He specializes in
high ropes facilitation, wilderness adventure
programs, and ropes course construction.
- MARILYN KAYLOR
comes to us after 15 years with
the state of North Carolina's Camp Woodson as
program support staff. She is currently pursuing a
degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Asheville.
Marilyn has a wealth of experience with youth and
her easygoing style helps her with her corporate
facilitation as well.
- GREG AINSLEY
a graduate of Western Carolina
University with a degree in Recreation Management,
joined our COAC, Inc. team in the summer of 1998 as
an intern. After graduation, Greg spent two years
working with youth in a wilderness setting with the
Eckerd Camps program. Greg works as a low ropes and
high ropes high ropes facilitation with youth and
adult groups as well as in our ropes course
construction and Adventure Programs.
- AMY SHAEFER
a
graduate of Winthrop University in Business
Administration and Accounting, joined our COAC, Inc.
team in the summer of 1998. Amy had attended several
of our sessions as a member of a JROTC program. She
found that she was really good at helping other take
challenges and learn from them. Amy specializes in
high ropes facilitation with youth and adult groups.
